The farmhouse sits in the right spot to live two Marches in a single holiday: the Adriatic Sea with the beaches of Porto Sant'Elpidio five minutes away, and behind you the medieval villages, the hills and the food of one of Italy's most authentic provinces.
5 minutes by car (or 20 on foot, walking down the hill) you reach the seafront of Porto Sant'Elpidio: kilometres of equipped and free beaches, beach clubs, seaside restaurants and a cycle path running along the whole coast. The seabed is shallow and slopes gently — ideal for families with children — and the town regularly flies the Blue Flag.
If you're after quiet even in August: the beaches north of the centre, towards the pine grove, stay less crowded than the big resort towns. Heading south, Lido di Fermo and Porto San Giorgio add more well-kept seafronts.
Sant'Elpidio a Mare (10 minutes) is the home village: walls, towers, the Lateran Basilica of the Holy Cross and small squares where time slows down. Fermo (15 minutes) is the province's art city: Piazza del Popolo, the underground Roman Cisterns and the Teatro dell'Aquila deserve half a day. Torre di Palme (20 minutes), perched above the sea, is listed among Italy's most beautiful villages — spectacular at sunset.
A little further: Moresco, Servigliano and the countryside of the Fermo hinterland, perfect for a drive among vineyards and olive groves.
10 minutes north, Civitanova Marche is the liveliest town on this stretch of coast: shops and outlets of the footwear district (many of Italy's great shoe brands are born here), a marina, fish restaurants and nightlife. If you need a "city evening" during your relaxing week, it's a quarter of an hour away.
In less than half an hour you reach Loreto, with the Holy House that has drawn pilgrims for centuries, and Recanati, Giacomo Leopardi's town with his birthplace and the Hill of the Infinite. Just beyond, the Conero Riviera: Sirolo, Numana and the Due Sorelle beach, among the most photographed in Italy. Inland, the Frasassi Caves (about an hour) are among Europe's most spectacular karst systems — the perfect trip for a cloudy day.
The farmhouse is an ideal base for cycle tourists: near-traffic-free country roads among olive trees and vineyards, gentle climbs on the first hill and the coastal cycle path minutes away. On site there is a secure garage with e-bike charging. For runners and walkers, the loop around the villa Il Castellano's rows of vines offers sunsets over the Adriatic.
The province of Fermo is a land of real cooking: brodetto (the Adriatic fish stew), olive all'ascolana, vincisgrassi, Marchigiana IGP beef and the Falerio and Rosso Piceno wines.
